This comprehensive review explores the associations between social networking sites (SNS) and university students' psychosomatic health. The review analyses articles published between 2010 and 2022 that investigated the relationships between SNS use and various aspects of psychosomatic health, including depression, anxiety, stress, sleep disturbances, and physical health. The review also considers potential moderators and mediators of these relationships, including gender, age, frequency of use, and type of SNS. The results of the review suggest that there is a significant and consistent association between SNS use and poorer psychosomatic health among university students. The most consistent relationships were found between SNS use and symptoms of depression and anxiety. However, the review also highlights the need for further research to examine the potential mediating and moderating factors that may impact these relationships. The review also discusses the implications of these findings for policy-making and future directions for research. Given the widespread use of SNS among university students, it is important for policymakers to consider strategies to promote healthy SNS use and mitigate the potential negative effects on psychosomatic health. Future research should focus on longitudinal studies that can explore the causal relationships between SNS use and psychosomatic health, as well as the underlying mechanisms that may explain these associations.
Key Words: Social networking sites, psychosomatic health, university students, depression, anxiety, stress, sleep disturbances, physical health.
